The first match between Mumbai Indians(MI) and Chennai Super Kings(CSK) was one of the most awaited clashes of the season. Both teams were the most successful franchises of the entire IPL season. The stage was set at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for another thrilling season. Rachin Ravindra played anchor as Chennai Super Kings with an easy four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025.
Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and have opted to field first. This decision proved to be worthy as they won by 4 wickets. Mumbai Indians started slow innings scoring only 52 runs with the loss of 3 wickets in the Powerplay. It was a bit distressing to see records of the Mumbai Indians.
Two Mumbai Indiana openers opened the batting lineup by picking up the bat against the opposition: Rohit Sharma and Rickelkton. Rickelton scored 13 runs in 7 balls. At the tenth over Mumbai Indians reached 82 runs while losing three wickets in their match against opposition. Mumbai Indians faced uphill difficulties at Chepauk as Chennai Super Kings skillfully adapted to the spinning conditions.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad from Afghanistan delivered 4 wickets while giving away only 18 runs in his 4-over spell. Through his bowling effort Khaleel Ahmed managed to dismiss three vital batters which included Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. The exceptional batting performance of Tilak Verma with his 31 runs could not rescue Mumbai Indians who ended the innings at 155 runs.
Chennai Super Kings started their innings with Gaikwad and Devon Conway as their opening batters to face a reachable score of 156 runs. The opening batting duo of Duo immediately launched their powerful attack against Mumbai Indians’ bowlers since their first over. The right-hander Gaikwad hit 53 runs from his 26-balls-at-bat.
However, MI found a glimmer of hope when spinner Vignesh Puthur came into the attack and took one wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad with a deceptive googly. The score managed by them was 62 runs with the loss of 1 wicket. Following this he took 2 more wickets of Shivam Dude and Moeen Ali, which created a tense situation for Chennai Super Kings.
At this point, Chennai Super Kings needed stability and that came in the form of Rachin Ravindra. Ravindra is an all-round player, with his calm and composed knock he became the star player of today’s match. His ability to rotate the strike and hit boundaries kept MI’s bowler from building further tension and pressure. Ravinfra’s mature 65 not out in 45 balls took Chennai Super Kings to Victory.
Mumbai Indians’ bowlers, particularly Puthur and Arjun Tendulkar showed resilience in the middle overs. Tendulkar bowled with accuracy,y restricting kings from taking runs which added tension to the squad. Ravindra saved today’s game by playing decisively and hitting boundaries. With just 6 runs needed in the final over, he finished things off by hitting a boundary ensuring Chennai Super Kings reached the target with 5 balls to spare closing the innings at 156 with the loss of 6 wickets.
Mumbai Indians’ Vignesh Puthur created tension among Chennai Super Kings by taking three wickets of Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda which brought excitement among Mumbai Indians fanbase that finally the game is turning in their favor. At this moment Chennai Super Kings was a bit distressed. Crowd Favourite MS Dhoni played just 2 balls and remained unbeaten on 0.
The big clash between Chennai Super Kings and MI stole the limelight for Noor Ahmad from Afghanistan who is the young left-arm spinner who put on the show with the ball. Noor’s spell proved to be a tie-breaker for Chennai as he took 4 wickets in 4 overs giving only 18 runs to the opponent which made him Player of the match.
This performance not only made him the Player of the Match but also established him as a rising star to watch in IPL 2025.
Today’s Match between CSK and MIs was not up to expectations as Mumbai Indians didn’t play as per their earlier records. Fans wanted to see more ball-crossing boundaries setting up more targets for the opponent Chennai Super Kings. 155 was not expected from them, they need to maintain consistency in order to win the IPL title.
