To begin their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bankrolled on a 44-run win over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, in the second match of the tournament. The matches were talked about as mere formalities and ultimately lived up to the tagline as high-scoring thrillers where batting firepower was evident from both sides.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening match proved to be very interesting as their players proved their worth. Ishan Kishan smashed a phenomenal century on his SRH debut and was helped by contributions from Travis Head, Nitesh Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl which made SRH bat.
At the start of the match, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head did the opening. They played well until the 4th over when SRH lost his first wicket and Ishan Kisan took the place of Abhishek Sharma and by the end of the powerplay their score was 94 runs at the loss of one wicket. By the end of 10th over Sumrisers Hyderabad lost his their one more wicket and Travis Head was out of the field.
Travis Head and Ishan Kisan played well and their partnership proved worthwhile as by the end of the 10th over their score was 135 runs with the loss of 2 wickets. Ishan Kishan made his debut in SRH special by making a 45-ball century making it very special as it was his first in the IPL.
Nitesh Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen ended the inning with their powerful blows as Sunrisers Hyderabad reached 286 runs in 6 wickets during 20 overs. Jofra Archer went through one of his worst bowling days at the IPL as he gave up 76 runs across four overs which went down in history as the costliest spell.
Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal entered first for Rajasthan Royals’ batting line-up. At the critical moment of Rajasthan Royals’ first wicket downfall Yashasvi Jaiswal had to depart from the field. Riyan Parag stepped in to bat but only lasted a short time in the field before the wicket dismissed him. During the powerplay period RR accumulated 77 runs against 3 fallen wickets.
The start of RR’s batting innings was unstable as Yashasvi Jaiswal became the first batter out while chasing the high 287 run target. Samson and Dhruv held the innings together with their valuable stand. Samson hit his half-century first but Hetmyer’s big hits in the end made RR score well but could not match the high total.
During the tenth over they had 118 runs on the board but gave up three wickets. They ended with 242 runs off 6 wickets. SRH prevailed in the match with a 44-run victory that became their biggest success to date. The Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers especially Pat Cummins and Mohammed Shami successfully defended their team’s target during the final overs.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma became the SRH match openers and set the atmosphere for the match with their amazing partnership. Head’s aggressive 67 off in 31 balls and Sharma’s 24 laid a solid foundation for the game. However, it was Ishan Kisan who stole the whole show with hitting a century smashing 106 runs in just 47 balls.
As Abhishek Sharma departed SRH Ishan Kisan took the stage and his performance controlled the match from that point forward. He scored 106 runs in 47 balls. His batting performance produced many towering sixes and scoring opportunities for Royal Rajasthan players to deal with. The SRH cricket team fixed an enormous run-scoring goal at 286 for the Rajasthan Royals squad.
SRH opens the season powerfully through solid cricket determination on both offense and defense.
